On 20th of January 2011 the 2nd Cradle to Cradle® congress took place in Graz. More than 280 participants from around the world had the possibility to compare notes on C2C. The congress did not only found favour with the C2CN partners, 90 participants from the nine countries involved in the EU project, but also with the interested public and many entrepreneurs.
Beside lectures and panel discussions the representative of the European Commission Mathieu Fichter presented the development of C2C on EU level.
Albin Kälin from EPEA Switzerland examined the entrepreneurs’ aspect and the possibilities for value added if they would work in closed loops.
With two best practice examples in Austria, Backhausen Interior Textiles and gugler* cross media the audience gained view in a successful integration of C2C into an enterprise.
To intensify knowledge and competence transfer as well as to build networks among the participants, four workshops were offered to discuss C2C on a small scale.
Wilhelm Markus Geiger of the Ministry of Life talked about the potential of C2C for Austria’s environmental policy.
Michael Braungart closed the congress with his key note. He inspired the visitors by showing how to realize a “good throwaway society”.
Altogether the Department for Economic and Tourism Development of Graz looks back on a successful congress.
